Barnali Ghosh
"Plants at Night"

Showing August 30 - September 19, 2025

For a decade now I’ve taken photos of plants while walking on the streets of Berkeley. During one of the most challenging times of my life, I found that the only way I was able to appreciate beauty in nature was to take photos of plants at night, a practice I continued through the pandemic to the present. Most nights it’s just me, and folks walking their dog, or an occasional jogger. The photos are captured using an iPhone, with light from a streetlight or a passing car. The intention is not perfection, or detail, but to capture the essence or mood of the time and the subject.

Barnali Ghosh is an immigrant artist, landscape architect, and co-founder of the award-winning Berkeley South Asian Radical History Walking Tour.
